Magical Boys Club by masochisticcannibal Magical Boys Club by masochisticcannibal
Drawn during Fantasci 2014 at the Chesapeake Library.
This was originally an idea for a longer comic about a boy becoming comfortable with his embarrassing magical powers as a metaphor for accepting one's true self, but I thought it might be fun to just make a quick gag comic with the concept since my longer comic ideas get put on the backburner so often.

I'm watching the old Sailor Moon episodes on DVD with my daughter right now, and I gotta say, this seems totally spot on.

But if I were that dude?  I would just let my friends die.  Apparently because I'm not comfortable with my feminine side.

Still: funny idea.

I love the old Engligh dub of Sailor Moon, it's so ridiculous (Why does Serena's friend Molly sound like she's from Long Island?)
I'm glad there are still some girls today who can appreciate the original. I was talking to an 8-year-old at a convention about anime, and when I told her I watched Sailor Moon as a kid, she gave me a weird look and told me it was "too girly" for her.

That knocked me back on my heels a bit.

From the perspective of someone who parents now, I want to share this: most parents think what you just described means today's children are more sophisticated and intelligent.  I think it's probably truer that they are just merely jaded and lacking in imagination.

My own kid is demonstrating the same shallow comprehension of "character" that most of DA is fixated on.  She thinks she would probably like to hang out with Lita the most, but her "favorite character" is Sailor Mercury because she likes her costume colors the best.  And that explains how an "OC" is developed: you like one character, but think they would be better with blue hair.

Molly is awesome and it has everything to do with the fact that she sounds like a New York kid.
